Lilly Innovation Fellowship Program

Fellowship opportunity for P4s

We have a posting on Trialect at www.trialect.com soliciting applications for Lilly Innovation Fellowship Program in diabetes and other areas. Recognizing that many post-doctoral training programs have not always prepared young scientists for the full spectrum of job opportunities available to them (academic, industry, biotech/start up, government, not-for-profit research), Lilly has designed this program to broaden post-doctoral scientists’ training experience. Key to the success of this program will be the establishment of a true academic-industry training partnership where the post-doctoral scientist and their academic mentor are paired with a Lilly scientist who serves as an industry mentor.

Program benefits include:

·         Full post-doctoral salary and benefits for up to four years
·         Limited post-doctoral travel support to attend scientific conferences
·         Annual payment to the university to support the post-doctoral scientist’s training
·         Relocation support when moving from the university to work at a Lilly research site
·         Participation in Lilly post-doctoral scientist development programs
·         Interaction with Lilly’s global scientific network and become part of Lilly’s community of current post-doctoral scientists and alumni

Lilly Therapeutic and Functional Areas currently participating in the LIFA program include:

·         ADME/Drug Disposition
·         Analytical / Statistical Sciences
·         Autoimmune and Inflammatory Diseases
·         Biomolecule Science & Engineering
·         Chemical Engineering
·         Diabetes
·         Diagnostics
·         Drug Delivery & Devices
·         Health Outcomes Research
·         Informatics
·         Medicinal/Discovery Chemistry
·         Neuroscience (pain, neurodegeneration)
·         Oncology
·         Pharmaceutical Sciences (biologics and small molecules)
·         Process Chemistry
·         Protein Production
·         Regulatory Sciences
·         Tailored Therapeutics (targeting therapies for the right patient with the right dose)
·         Toxicology

Please refer your fellows or junior investigators to this program. The details can be perused at:   Lilly Innovation Fellowship Program

Evaluation Competition

The evaluation completion rates as of 11/27/15 were as follows:
P1           1527/1908           80.03%
P2           1124/2366           47.51%
P3           997/2352              42.39%
In order to earn the dress down week, a class had to have the highest completion rate as well as reach at least 85% completion by now. For this reason, we have no one qualifying for a dress down week for next week and no winner this semester.

Even so, all students should complete their teacher, course, site, and preceptor evaluations. This feedback is very important to improving your learning experience. Evaluations will remain open through the end of the semester, December 11, 2015, to allow you adequate time to complete these important measurement tools. Please take some time between now and Christmas break to do so.

I thank you all in advance!
Dr. Sease

Evaluation Competition

We know that teacher, course, preceptor, and experiential site evaluations are time consuming and can be somewhat tedious at times.  The input that we receive from you from these evaluations is immensely important to us, though.  We want to do something to help provide a little extra incentive for completing your evaluations that you might appreciate.
So, here are the details:
·         Beginning November 6th, the response rates for teacher, course, preceptor, and experiential site evaluations will be tracked for each class (P1-P3).  The completion rate information will then be provided to you on a weekly basis via PharmNews.
·         On November 24th, the class who achieved the highest completion rate will be awarded a dress down week (the class must achieve at least an 85% completion rate to qualify).  The dress down week will be November 30th-December 4th.
Exceptions to the 11/30 – 12/4 dress down time period include:
o   Laboratory course attendance.  Appropriate lab attire is always required for laboratory courses.
o   Admissions interviews from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1.  All students should follow the professional attire policy when prospective students are on campus for admissions interviews so you must be dressed professionally during this time.
The Office of Academic Affairs will provide casual stickers to the class that wins on the relevant days so that students allowed to dress down are easily identifiable. You’ll need to be sure to wear your sticker! Jeans and t-shirts are acceptable dress down attire. Workout clothing, lounge wear, and the like are not permitted.

As you are completing your evaluations, please keep these notes in mind:

o   Do your best to make your comments count.  You can do this by making them professional, objective, descriptive (by providing examples), and specific to the course or instructor you are evaluating.  Keep comments impersonal, focusing on key overarching themes.

o   Take care to note which evaluation you are completing and put course comments on course evaluations and instructor comments on instructor evaluations only.  Be sure that you do not make professor specific comments on course evaluations.

o   If you have no comments to add, please skip the comment box entirely.  No need to place N/A in the blank

o   When filling out evaluations, please think about the specific class criteria and expectations.  Each course is different, please treat them as such.

o   Read each question carefully.  Be sure to answer exactly what is asked.

o   Be sure your ratings and your comments match.  If your evaluation is positive, but your comments are negative, it sends a mixed message.  Be thoughtful, clear, concise, and accurate.
Your feedback is completely anonymous. Below, you can see an example of the anonymous reports generated.  If you have any questions regarding completing evaluations, how evaluations are utilized for program improvement, and your role in the assessment process; please feel free to contact Ms. McCaslan, Director of Assessment and Academic Services at mmccaslan@presby.edu.
Thank you sincerely for giving of your time and energy to provide us with your important feedback!!!

Completion rates as of 11/13/15:
P1: 59.09%
P2: 36.18%
P3: 24.85%

All evaluations should now be open.

What were the strengths of the instructor's performance for this course?
Dr. Dumbledore can always find value in each student.  He is very inspiring and well liked.

What were the weaknesses of the instructor's performance for this course?
Dr. Dumbledore could have more office hours.  After several attempts at stopping by, I emailed Dr. Dumbledore for an appointment.  Dr. Dumbledore and I were never able to schedule a time to meet.

What could the instructor do to improve his/her performance for this course?

It would be helpful if Dr. Dumbledore would incorporate more case studies.  Other instructors in this course utilized case studies as a way to reinforce the lecture material.  I feel that was very beneficial to my learning, and think that Dr. Dumbledore should incorporate this into his instructional methods.

Thank you to everyone who came to volunteer for the Thornwell Halloween Carnival!  The event was a huge success and the kids had an amazing time.  We could not have made this possible without all of your help!

If you are interested in raising money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital please register at www.stjude.org/utd.

If you would like to volunteer for the Laurens County Humane Society please go to www.laurenshumane.org to fill out a volunteer application.

The food pantry in Clinton has volunteering opportunities on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3pm for those interested.

SVS to Host Dance Marathon for Charity:  Hose for Hope and Delete Blood Cancer are hosting a dance marathon at Springs Gym on Friday, Nov. 6. The doors will be open at 6 p.m. and the event will start at 6:20 p.m. Couples will swing dance together until they "drop out," and the last couple standing wins a prize! The event is $10 per couple and $5 per single dancer. If you don't have a date, we'll match you with one for the evening! All the proceeds are helping fund Delete Blood Cancer's typing event and sending Hose for Hope's teams to the Hope Relay this year! See you at Springs Gym!
