Musgrove Mill State Historic Site Seeks Volunteers for Park Day
CLINTON– On Saturday, April 2, 2016, history buffs, community leaders and preservationists will team up with the more than 125 sites in 29 states to answer the call to service on Park Day.
Park Day at Musgrove Mill State Historic Site will begin at 8 am with a roadside litter pick-up. Musgrove Mill State Historic Site is situated in Laurens, Spartanburg and Union Counties. We would like to have a team for each county. We’ll be picking up on state and county roads that run through the park. Teams will meet at the Visitor Center for assignments. We will provide safety vests, gloves and trash bags.
At 10 am, we will meet at the Visitor Center to divide into teams for trail work. A team will work at Blackstock Battlefield on the Palmetto Trail and a team will work at Musgrove Mill on the Battlefield trail.
Registration is required. Please call the park office at 864-938-0100 by March 30, 2016 or email us at mgmillsp@scprt.com. Please include the subject line “Park Day”.
Participants to both the 8 am and the 10 am work times are required to wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear and dress for the weather. Hand trimmers or loppers are helpful. Water will be provided. Event goes on rain or shine.
At 12 noon, you may bring a picnic lunch to the shelter. Bottle water and dessert will be provided.
This event is sponsored by the Civil War Trust. The Civil War Trust is the largest and most effective nonprofit organization devoted to preservation of America’s hallowed battlegrounds. Through its Campaign 1776 initiative, the Trust seeks to save the battlefields connected to the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, as well as the work they have done preserving Civil War battlefields. To date, the Trust has preserved closed to 43,000 acres of battlefield land in 23 states. For a complete list of participating Park Day sites, visit Civilwar.org/parkday.
